       ORIGIN OF THE VANNIYARS           
    The name Vanniyar is derived from the Tamil word Vanni (Vahni or Agni in Sanskrit) which means fire. It also means valour or strength. They were originally known as Pallis in South India, this word means village. They were also known as Padaiyachis. or "commandant of the group or army" Vanniakula Kshatriyas are a feudal caste and descendants of the Kadava dynasty and Pallava empire that ruled Andhra, Northern Tamilnadu and Southern Karnataka, with their capital at Kanchipuram . They also have Chola origins. There is also a legendary origin of this community which is found in the inscriptions about Vanniyar Puranam at Sirkazhi Vaideeswaran Temple. During ancient times, there were two Asuras ,Vatapi and Mahi, who worshipped Brahma and through austere penance obtained the boon of immunity from death. They soon took control of the earth and people prayed to the Devas for help. The Devas immediately nominated Jambuva Mahamuni or Sambu/Jambu Maharishi to performed a might Yagam with his yogic powers. As a result of this, armed horsemen called Vanni Raya sprung from the flames. These brave soldiers undertook twelve expeditions and destroyed the Asuras and freed the Earth. Once this expedition was successfully executed, their leader assumed the government of the country under the name Rudra Vanniya Maharaja or Veera Vanniyan, who had five sons, the ancestors of Vanniyar Caste. comunithy build by marriage ,
